The economic viability of the companies is a more significant gap in rural tourism. quality standards can be new instrument to help consolidate businesses, because its positive direct and indirect effects: improve professionalism, increase size companies, protect architecture traditional culture, facilitate segments tourists smaller but higher value. However, interest businesspeople for marks will depend on benefits that they provide, at least initially support investment costs implementation. article reviews literature findings perceived standards, paying particular attention accommodation. research develops an empirical work with extensive database. It contained results obtained by set hotels specific region Spain. These accommodations operate public standard called “Casonas Asturianas” (Old Asturian Palaces). provide evidence about relationship between economicperformance hotels. Also, conclusions suggest presence some nuances self-selection bias, explicitly referring high season tariffs.
